Obituary for Barbara M. Custer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing on February 1, 2022 of our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend Barbara M. Custer.

Born in Pittsburgh in 1935, she was predeceased by her mother Ruth French and her father James McKibbin. She is survived by her son Douglas (Jane) Kaltenbach of Fredonia, NY, her daughter Kathryn (Doug) Corell of Fredonia; granddaughters: Olivia Kaltenbach and Tess Corell. She also leaves her lovable dog Patch behind.

Barbara was employed for over 25 years at Brocton Central School as a teacher assistant. She loved spending time with family and friends and could frequently be seen at baseball and volleyball games, concerts, musicals and graduation ceremonies. Her church family was an integral part of her life. Whether it was teaching Sunday school, packing weekend food bags for school children, attending Bible Study, or simply bringing food, Barb was the first volunteer for whatever was needed. All who knew Barb were touched by her patient, kind, humble and loyal spirit. She will be remembered for her strength of character, unwavering faith and genuine love of family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday February 8, 2022 from 10 am-11 am at the West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 US-20, Westfield, NY, where a memorial service will follow at 11 am. Due to COVID restrictions, the family regrets a funeral luncheon will not be held. Memorial contributions in Barbara’s memory may be to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 E. Chestnut St., Dunkirk, NY 14048 or the West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 US-20, Westfield, NY 14787. On-line condolences may be made at larsontimkofuneralhome.com.
