Obituary for David M. Privitera

David M. Privitera, 58, of Fredonia, N.Y., died Thursday May 13, 2021 at Brooks Memorial Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Dunkirk on February 14, 1963 to Mary D’Cara Privitera and the late Joseph R. Privitera. He attended Cardinal Mindszenty High School with the last class to leave the school when it closed, then graduated from Fredonia High School. A professional grower, David was the owner operator of Privitera Farm Market and Garden Center and Privitera Farms. He also owned grapes in the region and was a grower for the National Grape Cooperative (Welch’s). David belonged to numerous farm organizations.
He was best known for his beautiful flowers and the numerous varieties of fruits and vegetables he grew. He was a beloved member of the community with many friends and known for his kindness to all. In 1983, David was the Chautauqua County Demolition Derby Champion and participated in the NY State Championship later in the year. He loved his farm, enjoyed working on vehicles of all types, and spending time with friends. David was a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia, where he served as an altar server in his youth.


David is survived by his mother, Mary Privitera; his sister, Janet M. Privitera Bonasera (Daniel) and his nephew, Daniel J. D. Bonasera (Samantha). Also survived by beloved aunts, uncles and many cousins. Besides his father, Joseph R. Privitera, David is predeceased by his brother, Joseph C. Privitera. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4-7 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church, (Corner of Cushing & Orchard Sts.), Wednesday, at 11 am. Please assemble at church. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. COVID-19 regulations will be in effect. Please wear a mask and maintain proper social distance.
