Jerome Charles “Jerry” Spencer, 80, of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away Saturday July3, 2021 at Buffalo General Hospital. Mr. Spencer was born February 19, 1941 to Earl Spencer Sr. and Margaret Maloney Spencer in Dunkirk, N.Y.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, camping, yard sales and the Buffalo Bills. He served his country in the US Army from November 1963 until November 1965, stationed in El Paso, TX. At the age of 18 he started his career at Dunkirk Ice Cream and his work there continued until April 7, 2012. Jerry spent 53 years of his life making ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Earl Jr. and John “Jack” Spencer, one sister Sheila Spencer Kuehn and a daughter Melinda “Mindy” Spencer Decker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years Janice Topliffe Spencer of Fredonia, Michael Jay (Jennifer) Spencer of N. Wilkesboro, NC, a brother David Lee (Anne) Spencer of Fredonia, five grandchildren: Andrea Decker of Dunkirk, Taylor Decker and fiancé Alex Keech of Fredonia, Philip Decker of Florida, Stephen and Jacob Spencer of NC and three great-grandchildren: Zoey, Kayden and Dominic Keech of Fredonia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am at Family Church, 19 Church Street, Fredonia, NY on Saturday September 25, 2021 where a memorial service will follow at 11 am.
