Obituary for Sandra L. Brill

Sandra L. Brill, (80) , of Dunkirk NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021, surrounded by her loving children. Sandy is survived by her children: Richard (Robin) Riewaldt, Chip ( Tara) Riewaldt, and Lori Riewaldt-Meyers. She is also survived by many others who called her mother, grandchildren and great – grandchildren. Sandy was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven, by her mother, Mary Liberator (2006) and her husband, James Brill (2020) and her soul mate, Phyllis Knight.
Sandy was raised in Portland, NY and graduated from Brocton Central School in 1957, where she earned an award for excelling in math. She continued her education at Milford Fillmore Nursing school in Buffalo NY and worked at the former Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. She retired from Verizon /New York Telephone in 1992. Sandy was a proud Union Steward for Communications workers of America for several years. Sandy continued her career after retirement by working for the Town of Portland, Westfield Hospital, Kelly Temporary services and Hospice of Western New York. Sandy had great memories as a member of the East Town of Dunkirk fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. In 2011 Sandy obtained her Amateur Ham Radio license and served as the Treasurer for the North Chautauqua County ham Radio Club for several years.
Sandy always enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles. She was a talented crafter, seamstress and quilter for many years. She created many quilts for family and friends. She was well known for creating newborn baby bonnets. She offered her expertise in alterations friends and family. She was a very giving grandaughter, daughter, niece, cousin, wife ,friend, mother, aunt, Gram, Iggie and Yamas. She was known for putting others’ needs before her own. She is described by many as the “life of the party.”
She always encouraging others to pursue adventures. These adventures including and not limited to dance parties, karaoke, performances at Shea's theater in the middle of a school day, Super bowl tickets, International festivals, The Chinese Circus, Van Halen concerts as a grandma, Toilet papering friends houses and unable to maneuver a driving circle without making her granddaughter’s laugh.
And as she would end many conversations “ well that’s all that is fit to print.” .
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Ave., Fredonia. Funeral services will be held at the Lakeshore Assembly of God,
252 E. Main St., Westfield, NY Thursday morning at 11 am.
Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial contributions in Mrs. Brill's memory may be made to the Lakeshore Assembly of God Church or Chautauqua Hospice and Palliative Care, 20 W.
