Obituary for Walter Allen Hamlin

Walter Allen Hamlin, 93, of Fredonia, N.Y., passed away of natural causes at home on Tuesday October 12, 2021. Walter was born in Dunkirk on March 16, 1928, son of the late George F. and Helen McDonald Hamlin. Walter was a 1946 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He owned and operated Hamlin’s Greenhouses on Central Avenue in Dunkirk until it ceased operating in 1966. He was a Master Planner at Al Tech Specialty Steel from where he retired. Walter was a 71 year member of the Masons and Worshipful Master of the Dunkirk Irondequoit Lodge # 301, a charter member of the Sharif Grotto Lodge in Dunkirk, current member of Kharrahm Grotto in Jamestown and a member of Jackson Lodge of Research. He was a life member of the Moniuszko Social Club, a social member of the John T. Murray VFW Post # 1017, and a member of the Fredonia First United Methodist Church. Walter loved sports, especially football, baseball, and golf. He also participated and enjoyed walking races. He was a youth leader for Dunkirk United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.

He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn Milks Hamlin; 3 children: Walter George (Selma) Hamlin of Broken Arrow, OK, David William (Bonnie) Hamlin, of Stillwater, OK, and Deborah Jean Hamlin
of Fredonia, N.Y.; 4 grandchildren: Walter Grant Hamlin, Kelly Jane Hamlin, Preston William Hamlin and Alexander David Hamlin.

Besides his parents, Walter is predeceased by 2 brothers: George and William Hamlin.

Visitation hours will be Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 6-8 pm at the LARSON-TIMKO Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue, Fredonia, N.Y. Funeral services will be held at the Fredonia First United Methodist Church, 25 Church St., Fredonia, on Wednesday October 20, 2021 at 5:30 pm.
