Obituary for William Stanley
William Roy Stanley, 75 of Myrtle Beach, SC & Greenhurst, NY passed away Sunday January 17, 2021 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC, after a brief illness with COVID-19. Born June 9, 1945 a son of the late Charles Jacob and wife Essie Louise Reno Stanley of Beloit O.H. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Glenda Barber-Stanley of 22 years; two sons William (Bill Jr.) Stanley-significant other (Natalia Emilianni) and Shawn Stanley; daughter: Shelly-Stanley Waddington-significant other (Chris Farrar) all of Jamestown, NY. "former spouse and mother of his children Marlene Moore, deceased March, 1997"; and a sister Shelby Unkefer of Alliance, Ohio; grandchildren: Angela Stanley (Michael Hogan) Tarpon Springs, FL, Jamie Stanley Buchanan (Terrance) Dunkirk, NY, Mike Waddington (Sarah Titus), Kris Waddington, Lakewood, NY, Shawn Tyler Stanley, Youngstown OH , Alec Stanley, Dunkirk, NY, Izabel Stanley Marcy, Boonville, NY. Great-grandchild: Dream Buchanan, Dunkirk, NY; step-son Scott (Teri) Barber of Germantown, TN; step-daughter Jodie (Carl) Cain of Fredonia, NY; step-grandchildren: Ryan Ferguson of Whittier, NC; Avery Barber of Germantown, TN; and Carson Cain and Kaylee Cain both of Fredonia, NY.
Preceded in death by a brother Charles (Butch) Stanley January 29, 2020, two sisters, Leila (Lee) Polen, January 21, 2010, Janice Rhome-February 6, 2007 (Ohio Area); grandchild Sherisse Stanley-June 6, 2006, Jamestown, NY
Bill graduated from West Branch High School in 1958. He drove in the demolition derby at the Canfield Fair, formed a band and made a 45 record. He enjoyed classic cars and riding his Harley on the back roads of Ohio in the 60’s and 70’s. He was a crane operator and a manager of Kings Dept. Store in Alliance, O.H. until he moved to New York to begin his career in the oil and gas industry. He owned a company and he invented and patented a brine reduction system. He retired from the oil and gas business in 2016. Also previously worked as a car salesman.
He was happiest with his family sitting around the table having meaningful conversations and reminiscing, cracking jokes, cooking out or just helping out. He was always excited to be on the water boating and fishing off the dock catching Muskie on Chautauqua Lake. He enjoyed deep sea fishing trips to Florida with Bill Jr. and loved spending time at Shawn's house riding on the John Deere Diesel Tractor and mowing his lawn. A call would come through to the boys from dad to hash out the winners and losers of WWE. He was excited to know he was the first one to call and wish you a happy birthday. He enjoyed spending quality time with his daughter. He enjoyed the little things, always smiling, letting you know how much you are loved.
He cherished every moment and his quality time with his wife including Friday night fish fry then a dance or two afterwards, day trips to the antique malls and thrift stores. He was always helpful in finding what someone else would like or needed. He liked to paint and refurbish furniture and household items. He enjoyed the simple things in life like having coffee with his loving wife watching the squirrels and birds on a beautiful sunny morning in the South.
A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
We will always carry his memory in our hearts.
